LAWN TENNIS.
SATURDAY'S GAMES.
FATHER AND SON TOURNEY. FINAL NOT PLAYED. A "father and son" tournament was played at the Stanley Street courts on Saturday. A fairly high standard o£ play was seen, and many of the matches were decided on a small margin. H. G. and H. O. Thomson, who were beaten in the final last year by Steadman and Steadman, won their way into the final by disposing of the .Maori pair, I*. and T. K. Turei. In the final they will meet last year's winners, who, in the semi-final on Saturday, beat N. W. and A. X. Bowden. The Steadiaans, who won after a hard three-set contest, preferred to postpone the final until a day to be selected this week. Among the players were H. and H. Diddams, of Sydney. The elder Diddams used to play with Dunlop, of Davis Cup fame, and in his day was a well-known interState player. He came to New Zealand some seventeen years ago in company with Dunlop, when an Australian team took part in the Dominion championships at Christchurch. The pair were not successful in annexing the doubles championship, but Dunlop captured the singles title after a sensational match with F. M. H. Fisher. Although Diddams showed a fine knowledge of the game on Saturday, he did not produce brilliaut strokes which made him famous a score of years ago. His son, who gives promise, was not at his best, owing to lack of practice. Kesults :— l - irst Kouud.—A. 1,, and J. E. Steadman heat A. S. C. and H. Brown, (>—4, «—j; x. \V. and A. N.
