WATERFRONT TRAFFIC.
ANOTHER PROBABLE OUTLET. COUNCIL LOOKING AHEAD. The linking up of streets and providing further outlets from the busiest thoroughfares to relieve the increasing traffic is evidently not being overlooked by the City Council, and it is on the cards that ere long a very necessary connecting road between Quay Street and Customs Street will be provided. Some little time back the Auckland Harbour Board acquired property along the waterfront in Quay Street, the property including a section with a frontage "of 60ft, and running back to the railway station boundary fence. The section referred to, if continued through, would join up with Gore Street, and apparently the Council recognise that it would be a good move to acquire it, as later, when the present railway station is removed to its new site, a road running through from Quay Street to Customs Street will'be necessary. It was rumoured a few weeks ago that the Council had the matter under consideration, but no definite information was available. However, that a move was being made is clear from a report to- be submitted to the Council this evening by the Works Committee. This follows upon a report by the city engineer, and the recommendation to the Council is that the Harbour Board be asked to reserve the section from leasing until an opportunity has been offered the Council to discuss the matter with the Harbour Board and Railways Department.
