MARTON RACES. FIRST DAY'S RACING. KILLOCH WINS HANDICAP. BANJUKE THE STEEPLECHASE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star." , ! PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday. The spring meeting ol the Marton Jockey Club opened at Feilding to-day in fine weather, though the course, owing to recent rain, was holding. There was a faiiiv good attendance, though not up to last year. The'totalisator receipt* showed a shrinkage of over £5000 Two Divisions. The Trial Plate was run in divisions, Boy being the only scratching. Beth was about £10 better backed than Tea Time, while the Riddiford bracket, Jemi(lar and All Bright, were next fancied. In the first division Beth was quickest to begin, with Tea Time. Alloway and Alarm most prominent of the others. Tea Time ran to the front before the top was reached, being attended by Beth, Alarm. Arrow River and Jcmidar. Beth was on terms with Tea Time at the top of the straight, and then drew right away, winning by three lengths from Arrow River, who beat Tea Time by a neck. Jemidar, Schorr, Archoii and Ajarni were next. In the second division Royal Time led across the top from Guadalquivir, Rising Star. Star Chamber, Petal and J Mountain Heath. (Guadalquivir wore Royal Time down in the run home to . win by a length. Petal was a similar distance away third, with Takaroa, Rising iStar. Mountain and Propellor next. Paddon was backed as a certainty for the Electric Hack Handicap, carrying over twice as much as Gay Comet, while Inner Harbour was next sought after. Gay Comet, Note, Inner Harbour, and Yertigern were the most prominent at the start, but before fifty yards had been covered Paddon and Inner Harbour took charge, followed by Note, Yertigern and Royal Land. Paddon and i/iner Harbour led into the straight from Note, Royal Land, and Girrioilli. Paddon went on to win in easy fashion by three ;e lengths from Inner Harbour, who beat ie Royal Land by half-a-length. Before breakfast Namutere, Star Comet, and Gala Day finished in the order written over live furlongs in 1.6 1-5. Sleepy Sol and Marble Mount, joined by Chariiaine at the half-mile, ran a round in 1.44 2-5. Sleepy Sol and Charitainc finshing together in front. Bahama and Muriut ran six furlongs easily in 1.29 3-5. Judge's Box and Areheno were companions over half a mile in 56 l-ss. Without being ridden out Princess Ronnie and Boomerday ran over a circuit in 1.47 2-5. Quondong and Corinax sprinted four furlongs in 55 2-ss. Xewberry and Pavo running the same distance and finishing together in 52 3-ss. Golden Glass (X. Rowe) jumped a couple of the schooling hurdles twice, shaping well. Uralla, who is improving, ran four furlongs in 55 1-s*. while Merry Damon and Gold Fern covered a round in 1.49 2-5. Hollvmond, Blue Sky, and Serang were allotted strong pace work. King Selwyn and Lord Bruce did useful work over a round and Adivunivola sprinted three furlongs, moving freely.
