MODEL ENGINEERING.

SOCIETY IN AUCKLAND. A USEFUL ORGANISATION. ' Model engineering has a large folW ing among those who make it a hobby T well as thoee who take it up for its'ed cational value. This is assured by th" number of enthusiastic members wfc attended the monthly meeting o f h° Auckland (N.Z.) Society of Model En* neers last evening. Mr. F. E. p oWß ii C.E., A.M.I. Mec'.i. E.. presided. "• The object of establishing a journal concerning the activities of the society was discussed, and it was decided to elect two members to edit the paper Mr F E Powell as editor, and a sub-editor" Mr. J. A. Lawler. *'

It was suggested by Mr. Matheson who is a very live member of the society that an exhibition should be held in the near future wherein would be shown numerous working models produced by various working members. The general feelins throughout, the meeting was that sine/ great outside interest had been shown in such a newly-formed institution, the display would warrant a very large hall being engaged. It was decided to keep the Town Hall closely in view, and au exhibition committee set up consisting of Messrs. Lawler (chairman), Roberta Moren and Graham. '

That radio should play some active part in the society was an idea brought forward by Mr. Burrell. who disclosed fn a short address the great deal of interest which is at prevent being centred round wireless, especially so since it has been decided to construct a large radio station at; Auckland. Furthermore, he thought t'.iat the radio men could demonstrate to the public at the oncoming exhibition how a ship may be controlled from the shore by wireless. Finally it was decided to admit only those radio men who had made sets or who were endeavouring to do 60. °

Varioue offers for the use of workshops were made by one or two of tie members, and, in order that the tools and instruments in the-se shops may be used in the right manner and not damaged. Messrs. Gra'iam and Lawler were elected custodians and were authorised to accept for the society offerings of tools and parts, etc.

At the conclusion of the meeting a very fine marine engine and boiler constructed by Mr. M. A. Miller was placed on the table, steam was got up in a very sjort time, and a very entertaining half hour was spent discussing the various points of the mechanism. It war? disclosed at the meeting that a largo number of scale locomotives, hydroplanes, clocks, combustion engines, naval models, etc., were under construction by mcmljere, and these, when completed, should create a wide general interest.
