IN A PERSIAN GARDEN.
OPENING TO-DAY. i '"In a Persian Garden," which I ..* aroused so much public interest, is being opened by his Worship the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, to-day at 3 p.m. A sequel to "The Eastern Garden Fair," of 1021, it is said to excel it in the beauty of its setting, in its charm and fascination and in its general spectacular effect. The participation of three hundred girls in striking Persian costumes will lend a typical Eastern atmosphere. The lighting and decorative effects will be a special feature of the function, on a scale rarely before attempted in Auckland. Tho tableaux of the East will figure prominently in the programme. They will include "The Slave Market," j "A Dream of Egypt," "The Water Carrier," "The Wrestlers," "The Nautch Dance" and "The Queen of Slieba." They are being produced by Miss Cecil Hall, ; and there will be fifty figures in the \ tableaux alone. The stalls will also be decorated in Eastern style, and th« ! names will be shown in Persian charac- ! ters. A typical mosque, with its gilded , domes and towering minarets, will j occupy the whole of the stage space. I The Tea Garden will be elaborately ; decorated in harmony with the general j atmosphere of the East. A portion of j the Town Hall will be reserved for dancing, and there will be a number of side- : shows. The function extends over to- j day and to-morrow afternoon and i evening. j ===== 9 ,
