THE INCONSIDERATE SMOKER.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The timely article in the "Star" on smoking, .by Francis Yew, will surely meet ■with approval by many, both smokers and non-smokers alike. The ■writer mdglht well (have (pleaded the cause of the non-smoker, who, while recognising the-right of man or woman to indulge in tMs practice, and possibly tolerating or even enjoying at the right time, the scent of a clean pipe or nice cigar, in close proximity, y<fc maintains that more consideration should be shown 'by a certain section of men smokers wiho, apparently, are quite oblivious to the ordinary demands of common courtesy in daily , life. One may notice a man being served at a box office or counter, puffing his smoke into the attendant's face regardless of her discomfort. Again, how many people have to put up with, the discomfort of being smoke-dried in offices where their fellow workers only study t&eir own selfish pleasure in this matter. Again, whilst travelling to and from town it is not always possible at rush iiours to get away from the smoker, -who might show a little consideration for the comfort of his fellow traveller. These things make one pause to ask the question: "Whether the smoke, from its very nature, has a tendency to deaden the finer sensibilities of the smoker.—l am, etc., SMOKE DRIED.
