WATERFRONT FIRST AID.
THE NEW CASUALTY ROOM. ITS SERVICE APPRECIATED. Appreciation of the service given by the casualty room recently established on the Auckland waterfront by the St. John Ambulance Association, is expressed by the watersiders and shipping companies, as well as by the carriers and others who have received its first aid attention. In the past three months 21$ cases have been attended in the little room 6ft by Oft at the end of shed 14, and as many as eight victims of minor accidents have had their wounds dressed in a watch of five hours. Some of the cases that go to the casualty room are afterwards removed to the hospital, but in all cases first aid is given by the attendant and an ambulance is kept on the spot ready for emergencies. There have been 22 hospital cases since March. It is anticipated that the cost of maintaining the room in materials and stores will amount to a considerable sum during the first twelve months, which close next February, but against this is set the quality and promptness of the service.
