A STREET BRAY.
A TRIO IN TROUBLE. MAN WHO DID NOT RUN AWAS. i3y Telezra.;-. —Own '-orre_po__e::: WHANGAREI. this day. Arising out of a fracas in John Street on Saturday evening, three men named F. Smith. W. Robertson and A. Berquist. were before the Magistrate's Court to-day. It was stated that Smith was observed by Constable Beaseley earlier in the evening having an altercation with another man in Walton Subsequently the polii-e reoiced information that the men were righting in John Street. Smith was found to be there and was arrested. Robertson and Rerquist were righting. It was stated that Robertson, whose face was somewhat disfigured, was the aggressor. Berjuist was only defending himself "What be should have done." said the police, "was to have run away." Mr. J. McKeri-ie. J.P.. who was on the Bench, said: "I ilon't think I could ask him to run away." Smith was lined £1. Berquist £1 and Robertson £2. also 10/ for damage to a motor -at screen.
