SAFETY OF POWER LINES.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. ■ (From Our Own Correspondent! } MORRINSVILLE, thia day. ! Detailing the precautions taken in con-. nection with falling electric power wires,; Mr. F. H. Claxton (chairman of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board) stated at a meeting last evening that his j board was fully alive to the situation.! The 11,000 volt "lines were protected -with j cut-outs which cut the current off j automatically. The 3000-volt lines were | also, protected, but owing to the lower | voltaga were less dependable. As an j extra precaution all fences within 30ft oi lines of iron or copper wire smaller than 7-lGth inch were earthed. ; As a still further precaution the board was securing a number of leakage relays, which, being of a highly sensitive nature, would cut-off the current within a given area immediately the lines fall from any cause.
