"JUST ANOTHER MOVE."
MISS MELVILLE INTERVIEWED. REFORM CANDIDATES RELATIVE HEADS DEPUTATION". "I have known for the past ten days that Sir James Gunson's friends were trying to organise a deputation," said Miss Melville, when interviewed by a "Star' representative this morning. "It has come to my knowledge that some of the most prominent women in Auckland were approached, and that they flatly refused to have anything to do with this movement. The disinterestedness of yesterday's deputation is rather discounted by the fact that the lady who headed it, Mrs. E. A. Kidd, is a close relative of the selected Reform candidate, Sir James Gunson. Also, the next principal speaker of the deputation is a prominent member of Sir James Gunson's committee at Mount Albert. On my direct question, she had to admit as much, while the deputation was in my office yesterday. Seven of the ladies 1 hare 'been associated with at various times in women's organisations, but most of the other members of the deputation were absolute strangers to mc. I asked them whether they represented any organisation, and they said they came as private citizens, interested in women's questions, and some of them said they were electors of Eden. "However, I know that this is just another move in the campaign. As the deputation was withdrawing, I said, 'Well, ladies, I jiist want to tell you that you have killed the woman movement in Auckland, by your action today! And you have" not advanced the candidature of your friend!'"

Sir James Gunson, selected Reform candidate, will fire his first shot in the Eden by-election campaign at Henderson i on Wednesday evening, when he will deliver an address in the Town Hall. ! Hall to-nieht, when Miss Melville will, i make public certain proceedings prior j ' to the selection conference at which Sir j ' James Ounaon was chosen. Miss Mel- > ville alleges that there were certain i grave irregularities in connection with what transpired before the conference j waa actually held, and it is her inten- • tion to make these widely known.
