PLUNKET SOCIETY APPEAL.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A misconception evidently exists among a section of the community owing to two appeals for financial support, one by the local branch of the Plunket Society for the maintenance of the district nurses in Auckland and suburbs, the other by the New Zealand Women's Zionist Society for the support of Plunket nurses in Palestine. It is unfortunate that the two appeals should coexist and as confusion in the minds of the public is inevitable, it is only fair that an explanation be made. In November last the Auckland branch of the Plunket vSociety decided to concentrate on a monster appeal on Plunket Day, March 26. Arrangements were immediately made witli that object in view, and circulars bearing the society's seal have now been distributed to prominent citizens. The New Zealand Women's Zionist Society is responsible for raising a sufficient sum in New Zealand to maintain Phinket nurses in Palestine and for this purpose is holding a Persian Garden Fete in July. In order to raiec funds to promote the fete, various entertainments are now in progress, and an impression prevails that half the proceeds of these go to the Auckland Plunket Society. In consequence a large number of inquiries are being made as to Whether patrons of the entertainments are also expected to contribute, by subscriptions or donations, on Plunket Day. To these inquiries there is but one answer, namely, that the Auckland funds do not in any way benefit by the entertainments, but depend entirely on the Plunket Day appeal. It must be clearly understood that the Auckland branch of the Plun'ket Society is in entire sympathy with the movement to support Plunket nurses' in Palestine, and will 'heartily co-operate in the effort of the New Zealand Women's Zionist Society in July.—l am, etc., . MAUDE PARKES. President Auckland Plunket Society. I
