CRICKETER FAREWELLED.
MR. W. R. GARRARD'S DEPARTURE,
THE UNIVERSITY'S TRIBUTE
Prior to his departure for Rotorua, where he is to take up a position with a legal firm in that town, Mr. W. R. Garrard, who has 'been prominently identified with Auckland cricket for some years past, was met yesterday by his fellow-members of the University Cricket Club and presented with a pipe and tobacco pouch. Professor Burbridge made the presentation, and in doing so said that Mr. CJarrard had been captain of the University senior eleven for several years, and had been one of the University's most distinguished cricketers, having attained ' provincial and New Zea-larid honours as a wicket-keeper. His departure woiild mean a big loss to the club, and to Auckland cricket generally, but "the professor said he felt sure he was voicing the opinion of all members in wishing iMr. Garrard all happiness and success in his new career. Mr. Garrard suitably responded.
