Qln.v 1. 3—Waiknto R.C. May s—Waverley U.C. . Kikeit lias resumed work at Opaki *fter a short spell. Lady Ideal is reported to be sprinting solidly at C.arterton just now, and • race should come her way soon. They were not a good set of 'chasers seen out at the Ohinemuri meeting, anu with the exception of King Abbey, Miss 3lelva and Peter Maxwell they gave a very poor display. Lc Choucas was started on a couple of occasions at the Ohinemuri meeting and finished second and fourth respectively. He has shown some ability as a sprinter recently. Charlady won the Ohinemuri Cup from end to end, but on Wednesday when started in the Paeroa Handicap was never very prominent after the field had covered half the distance. R. Knox has Lady Fingers, SiT Wai, and Sir Moment (a half-brother to Sir Kosebery) in work at Opaki. Sir Wai is reported to be coming along in his preparation for the jumping season. Heisler was made a very warm favourite for the St. Patrick's Handicap on the second, day of the Ohinemuri meeting, and flattered his supporters for a while, but then faded out and finished fifth. The Bay of Plenty Jockey Club will told their annual meeting at Tauranga to-morrow. The Northern Company's jtfatangi will leave for Tauranga at 7 : p.m. this evening, arriving back at Auckland on Sunday morning. Phaola Tan third in the Waitekauri Handicap at Paeroa on Wednesday after being a long way back in the early stages. She may yet be seen to better advantage before the two-year-old races are concluded this season. Dan Quin ran third in the Waihi Handicap on the first day of the Ohinemuri meeting after being prominent all the way, but on Wednesday he was never dangerous. He has not been a Very payable proposition this season. W. Jfaynor Is reported to have his team looking exceptionally well and by the time Easter arrives they should tie at their best. Motley is going as well. as ever and pleased by the way she shaped over six furlongs, the reverse way, on Tuesday. Mask is to I>b Mr. G. Curries representative in the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes and as he performed well at Wellington he is thought by a Wanganui writer to have a chance in that event. Star Stranger, Mundane ftnd Orauni are among those engaged. . Loch Abbey was started at Paeroa on ■Wednesday in the (Waikino Welter, one mile, and he made the pace for about six furlongs when he retired. He is only a pony, but with a little more experience may stay out this distance successfplly when the field is not too select." * Civility is reported to be doing great track work at Wanganui. She i 3 engaged at both Ellerslie and Riccarton at Easter time, but whichever place she is taken to she will be hard to dispose of. On Saturday she ran six furlongs in 1.13 3-5, while on Tuesday covered six furlongs, running the first four in. 48s. •« Arch Arrow did not stay on as well •a the more seasoned Value on the first clay of the Paeroa meeting, and in consequence was beaten. On Wednesday he was tried over six furlongs, but • after running well for five furlongs I laded out. This was las first race over the distance and his admirers must not tie disappointed with his display, for the son of Arrowsmith looks as though JttQ is going to be more than useful. ' Concerning Royal Tea's win a Sydney Writer says: "One of the most impreseive efforts at Kosehill was Royal Tea's tecord breaking gallop in a division of the Nursery Handicap. Before joining G. Price's Randwick stable, Royal Tea raced in New Zealand, where he was lired, and a first and a second registered foy him there made it appear as if the Rosehill handicapper had been rather lenient in allotting the gelding only 7.6. The bookmakers, well informed as usuel, offered a small price against Royal Tea in the early betting, but, it "being for Persuasion that most of the money came, the New Zealand-bred youngster eased. A 'belief that Price's representative had not done enough work ■was responsible for the disinclination of the public to follow the stable lead. |Cnight of the Garter, carrying the col-

burs of the A.J.C. chairman, was the only other candidate marketable. To ■win, Eoyal Tea did not have to extend liimself. Persuasion, Fairy Present, flind Knight of the Garter led him past the half-mile, and Persuasion and Knight of the Garter were still clear at the top of the straight. Knight of the Garter was first to give in, condition, evidently beating him, and for a moment it appeared as if Persuasion would hold her lead to the finish. Davidson, however, had been keeping a good hold on Royal Tea. and when he called on the gelding the response was immediate. Persuasion was overhauled in a few strides and Royal Tea passed the post with Ms ears pricked," three-quarters of a length to the good. Xot only did Koyal Tea easily l, e at a good cailoper thf course ipitll

Killocra is said to be standing up to his work fairly well, but is still troubled more or loss by a lame shoulder.

Star Area is reported to be getting through some good work at Wanganui and by the time the Easter fixtures roll round he is expected to be at the top of his form.

The coming two-year-old colt by Limonil —Royal Exchange, that was recently purchased by a patron of G. Jones' establishment at Grecnmeadows, has had tlic name of Royal Lineage given to him. He is shortly to be broken in. Dreamer, by llostyn from Moorooroo, by Trenton from Nightmare, which is now well on in her twenty-fifth year, is reported to have a foal at foot by Lord Quex, and looks in the prime of life. The best of this mare's progeny was Bon Eeve. a dual Derby winner, foaled over 1C years ago. Mr. L. C. Hazlett is again having bad luck with his cross-country horsee. Last season Pamplona went amiss on the eve of the Grand National meeting, and befoie this season's jumping campaign has boon properly started, three of his team in Galway, Fabriano, and Cassels have gone wrong. Cassels broke down ! badly at Invercargill, and as he is a big. heavy-actioned horse, may not stand another preparation.
