APPLES VERY PLENTIFUL. POTATOES CHEAP, EGGS DEAR. Apples are coming forward to the auction marts in large quantities just j now. There is a good demand for first-j grade sorts, hut small and windfalls have to be sacrificed. Gravensteins Lave realised from 3/ to 6/ per case, Scarlet Permain 2/ to 5/6, Golden Pippin 2/ to ! 3/, Wine Sap 3/ to 4/. Cox's Orange 6/ j to 9/, Cookers 3 to 5/. ; Poars are inclined to be in short i supply and have brought good prices as j follow: —Beure d'et 4/6 to 5/6 per case, j Louise Bonne 8/ to 12/, Packham's \ Triumph 8/ to 11/, Clairgean 5/(5 to 6/6. j Plums are now off the market and > peaches are getting scarcer. Golden Queen | realised 4/6 to 7/ per case and Lippiatrs j Late Red 4/ to 5/6. Other eales have • -been:—Passion 4/ to 6/ per case, Cape | Gooseberries 6d to 7a per lb. Tomatoes j 2/6 to 4/6 per case, Te Kauwhata grapes I 8/6 to 11/6. hothouse Od to 2/ per 11), Island oranges 20/ to 21/ per case, pineapples 12/ to 18/. lemons 5/ to 12/, bananas (repacks) 23/ to 30/. Vgetables. Potatoes are in heavy supply and have been bringing from 2/6 to 4/6 per sugar bag, and onions 7/6 to 10/ per cwt. Pumpkins and squashes 7/ to 0/ per cwt, Swedes 3/ to 4/ per sugar bag, peas 2d to 2Jd per lb, beans (very large supplies) 1/ to 2/ per sugar bag, kumaras 2d to per lb, cabbage 4/ to 11/ per sack, cauliflowers 8d to 1/3 each, marrows 1/ to. 1/6 per doz., Cucumbers fed to 9d per doz, rhubarb 1/6 to 2/6 per doz bundles, lettuce 2/ to 3/6 per case, celery 1/6 to 3/6 per bundle, carrots, parsnips, Leet and turnips 6d to 1/ per. doz lots, pickling on\ons 2d to 2Ad per lb. Fish. There have been good catches during the present week and a fine range of fresh fish is now available. Retail prices are: Fresh fillets, schnapper, tefekihi and trevalli, 3d to 4d each; John Dory, 1/ per lb: kingiish, 10d per lb; kippered fillets, 1/ per lb; lemon fish, 8d per lb; gurnet, creamnsh. and mussels, 2/ per dozen; whitebait, 9d per glass; fresh schnapper and trevalli, 6d to Sd each: mullet. 9d to 1/6; flounder, hapuka and kingfish, 1/ per lb. Smoked fish: Schiiapper. 10d per lb; mullet, 9d; trevalli, 8d: kippers, 8d per pair; silver strip, 9d per lb; crayfish, lOd to 1/ per lb; rabbits, 1/ each. Butter and Cheese. On the auction marts this week, farmers butter realised 1/3 to 1/5 per lb. The retail price to-day for farmers' butter is 1/4 to 1/6. Superfine factory butter is quoted at 1/9 per lb, first grade, 1/8 and Second grade 1/7 per lb. Cheese is still quoted retail at 1/2 to 1/4 per lb., and 1/6 for extra choice brands. Eggs. At auction this week, h«n egg 3 realised from 2/3 to 2/4 per dozen, duck 1/10 te "1/11. Prices are 18f% to •be maintained while the Lenten fast eotiiiftues. Bacon, and Ham. Demand remaitis good for 'bath. ba«on a*rd. hafiis. in c\its, W'coft 5s quoted lt)d to 1/6 pet lb, a»d rashers 1/5 to 1/7. Whole liams are offered retail at 1/2 to 1/3 per lb, and for rashers 1/8 per lb is asked.
