There will be considerable interest shown in the working of this mine (says the "Star"), as It is the tirst in the province to be worked by the deep lead .form of mining, and should it prove profitable it is sure to be the forerunner of other mines being opened out in. Otago. Men competent to know consider that the field lor deep lead mining in Otago is extensive, and that with capital 'some valuable mines will be opened up. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New Waiotahi.—The mine manager reports that the crosscut for the WaiotablCanlbriii feet has been extended 14ft for the week and timbered to the face. The last two or three feet of driving has been through a stiff blue clay formation, on the other side of which there is a well-defined wall of mild decomposed andesite carrying mineral veins, flinty and quartz seams, all favourable indications for gold. The first round of holes is now being bored in this formation. Kurunui.—The manager reports that the drive west of Ross reef has been extended 14ft, total 200 ft, from main crosscut. The reef here averages Sin wide, but has been mixed up -with mullock. The country is still.of a. good class for making gold. The rise from drive east on Ross reef for air is up 25ft, At this point we connected with a drive put in from the surface. This work is now completed, also air pipes laid into the drive north on cross leader. Xow that there is good air in both faces a start -will be made on Monday driving east on Ross reef, also on cross leader.
