SAME OLD BOUTS.
GUARDIANS DUPED.
A pair of old boot 3 has caused considerable trouble to the Camberwell Board of Guardians.
Recently the guardians invested the ratepayers' money in the purchase of some hundreds of pairs of new boots at 8/16 a pair. News of the purchase soon leaked out among the unemployed, and the guardians were besieged with applications for boots.
It was obvious that in many cases new boots were necessary and the order for them was given, but it was not until many pairs bad .been disposed of that one of the guardians noticed a strange similarity in the old boots being ebown on the feet of the men.
Inquiries were made, and it was found that the same pair of old boots had been doing service for several of the applicants. Once a man obtained hie new boots, the old ones were passed on to other applicants. The guardians now know the old boots.
