THE A.S.R.S.
I THE SECRETARYSHIP. METHOD OF ELECTION. In a supplied report of the meeting of the Auckland branch of the A.S.R.S. i,t was stated in relation to the forthcoming election of a general secretary that the "objectionable proposal" on the ballot-paper was "That the position of general secretary be open to all permanent members only." which meant that, permanent men would be able to vote away the rights and privileges of any casual railway workers who were members of the society. This, it is now stated, is incorrect, and it is exnlained that at the recent conference of the executive, lipid at Wellington, the following: three alternative? were put forward: (1) That the position be open to all permanent members only. (2) That the position be open to all financial members with two years' service immediately prior to nomi-nal-ion. (3) That the position be open to a 1! financial members. Thn position i* that members of the organisation have now the right to decide by preferential voting on the three issues, and a majority vote will settle the question a= to what franchise shall elect the general secretary.
