NEWMARKET WATER.
MATTERS OP DISPUTE. CONSIDERATION BY COUNCIL. A strong protest against the Railway Department's action in disconnecting the water supply main to the railway workshops was expressed in a letter sent by the Newmarket Borough Council to the Engineer of Railways. The matter came up for discussion at the Newmarket Borough Council last night, when it was stated that the Department recently took exception to the existence of two separate supply pipes to the Workshops. It was said that one was having an adverse effect upon the other. Although the actual supply had not been curtailed by the disconnection of the borough's supply, the main objection was raised by the council on the ground that the Department had failed to comply with the regulations, and give the required notice before taking action. Another matter concerning water supply in the borough was brought before the Council in the turncock's report, and a complaint was received from a resident of Carlton Gore Road, who said that the water came through the taps in his house very slowly. So low was the pressure, that if two taps were turned on, the water would flow from one only. He thought it was dangerous to use the califont under the circumstances. The turncock reported that he had informed the householder that the only remedy was to have his pipes relaid. This he refused to do as he intended to sell the property.
