The course was laid off in full view 01 the spectators on the wharf, and was marked liv three buoys at each end, which were taken in rotation, thus making the turns easy The distance of each lap was two sea miles and the championship course ! was eight laps or 16 miles. . \ Considerable interest was taken in the | rates, several hundred spectators paying ■ lor admission to the wharf, while quite a j flotilla of private launches and several hired boats gathered off the wharf aud followed ihV racing with keen interest. To facilitate clocking nt the start, a sixfoot dial was displayed on the wharf, -which ticked off the seconds of the last minute which was a big help to competitors in judging their exact time for start- < The officials for the day were : —Starter, Mr. E. L. Buchanan ; judge. Mr. A. G. Lunn; timekeepers, Messrs. Saunders and A. J. Collings; barge steward, Mr. S. Bell Booth. THE BURT CUP. This race started at 2.30 p.m., the boats going off in the order of. their handicap. Only Rover, Grace Darling, Wailani, Edwinu and Defender started. Rover was over the line at the start and did not answer to her recall. Edwin a gave up and the finish, was : — Defender, 3h 2m 58s 1 Grace Darling, 3h 5m 30s .... - Wailani, 3hi am 45s 3 The winner was steered by Miss Goodfellow, Grace Darling by Miss Phyllis Keniier, and Wailani by Mrs. Lloyd. A protest has been entered against the winner. THE SPEED CHAMPIONSHIP. This was expected to be tie big event of the day, but only Miss Virginia and Miss X came to the starting line, and were dispatched together at 3.10 p.m. to a fairly even start, Miss X getting away slightly ahead. The .first lap was timed, Miss Virginia 3h 14m 31s, Miss X 3h 14m 51s. The second lap times were: Miss Virginia 3h 19m 13s, Miss X 3h 10m 335. Just after commencing the third round Miss X had the hard luck, to strike a piece of driftwood, which.' bent her propeller, and she limped to her slip where the propellor was changed. Miss X competed in a later race. The other lap times of Miss Virginia were as follows: —Third lap, 3h 24m 19s ; fourth lap, 3h 29m 12s ; fifth lap, 3b. 37m 21s; sixth lap, 3h 42m 255; seventh, lap, 3h 47m 245. Finish, Miss Virginia oil 52m 41s. SPEED BOATS, UNDER 25 KNOTS. The starters in this event were Miss Milford, Miss Cheltenham, Spot, Hobo,

in this order of handicap. The first round was Spot Ah Sm 13s, Miss Cheltenham 4h Sm los, Hobo 41i Sm 48s, Miss Mllford 4h 8m 48 l-ss. Hobo passed Miss Cheltenham soon after rounding the third mark, and ■was overhauling Spot, but got under the " column of spray thrown- up by Spot's surface propellers, which put her. engine out of action for about one minute. H' ANNUAL CLUB KEGATTA. iThe Victoria Cruising Club held the alvnual club regatta on Saturday afternoon, when all classes of boats were entered for, from keel yachts down to tße three classes of 14-footers and launches. '.Pie entries and starters were very good in, ' most of the classes, and some keen racing resulted, there being a dead heat onv- connected times between Twilight and Hona in the 26-foot class. ;All events started and finished off the dredge Maui, moored off St. Mary's Bay. Yacht Squadron. The annual picnic tendered by the club | to its vice-presidents was held at Pine I Island yesterday. ; [ ROYAL N.Z. YACHT SQUADRON. \ RACE TO TE KUMJG. ! " The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron I held an extended cruising race of 35 'Biles | this afternoon, the destination being lei Kume. a very popular and 'well sheltered i harbour on the Coromandel coast, half a i mile below the entrance to Coromandel Harbour. The race started off the King's wharf at 2 p.m. .the entries and handicaps being lorangi scr., Waitangi BJm, Prize 3->m, Moana lorn, Hawene 18m, Victory 10m, Little Jim 3.~m, Kangi 4r.m. Little Jim and Victory did not start. There was a nice full .sail breeze from the south-west, and all carried topsai's setting leading jib and spinnakers soon after the start. From a very good start, Prize, Moana, lorangi, Rawene and Waitangi got away in this order. All set extras and lornnffl slowly went into the lead. Off North Head lorangi led Moana by half-a-minute, Waitangi and Prize were next about the same distince behind Moana, with Rawene and Rangi following. Passing Brown's Island lorangi was still leading, but Waitangi had taken second place. Prize, Moana, Kawenc and Rangi following in this order. At Waiheke passage lorangi and Waitangi were close together, with Prize third. Spinnakers were carried across the Gulf, and the finish was timed : lorangi 5h 58m 30s. Waitangi 5h 5Sm 555, Prize 6h Sm. Moana 6h llm, Rawene 6h 15m, Rangi 6h 27m. Result: Rangi 1. Waitangi 2. Prize 3. The launch race, whicn went to the same place, started with the yachts at 2 p.m. The entries and handicaps were : — Lady Margaret scr., Kathryn R. 45tm, Jeunessp 55m, Leitner 60m, but only Lady Margaret and Leitner started. Lady Margaret led all the way and the finish was: Lady Margaret (scr), 4h 38m, 1; Leitner (60m). sin 38m 28s, 2. Lady Margaret won by 28 seconds.

M. Class.—ln order to avoid claehing with the Power Boat Association's speedboat races, this race started and finished off the Resolution buoy, Parnell. Matarere crossed the line first, closely followed by Mawhiti. Maueue and Mischief, Maroro being it little astern. Spinnakers were set for the run out to the channel. Matarera kept her lend, but Mawhiti and Manene had to give place to Maroro. Passing the Resolution buoy on the beat in'from the channel fhe times were : Matarere, 4h 7m 2Ss : Maroro. 4h Urn 4Ss : Manene. 4h llm 51s; Mawhiti. 4h 12m 455. The. same order was maintained on the ruu across to tho Sandspit beacon, and the finishing times ; were: Matarere. 4h 30m 18s; Maroro. 4h 36m 41s; Mauene. 4h 4fim 48s; Mawhiti, 4h 47m 21s. Kesult : Matarere 1, Maroro 2, Manene '■'.. Mischief did not finish. The officers for the day were : Messrs. J. 11. Fi-ater, M. W. Kissling and G. Decry. The finishing times at Te Kume were taken by Mr. 11. O. Wiles, of the launch Lady Margaret. MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB* ANNUAL REGATTA. The third nnnual regatta of the Mnnukau Cruising Club was held on Saturday, the opening ceremony heiug performed by Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. There, were about 1000 people present. The Onehunga Town Band was in attendance. The following are the results «of the races : — Yacht Races (16 feet and under). — Flora 1, Lone Star 2. Silverdale 3.
