Treasury officials have estimated that "bootleggers" smuggled over 100,000,000 dollars' worth of liquor across the Mexican and Canadian borders in 1925, including over 300,000 gallons of Canadian beer, several hundred thousand gallons of Canadian ale, and about 400,000 quarts of genuine whisky. Meantime over 100,000 quarts of Tequilla, which is a white spirit made from cactus, crossed the Mexican border, with a thousand gallons of other iatoxicantsThe officials admit that th esnrugglers I had little difficulty in running the gaunt- : lets in 1925, but claim that the flow has slightly diminished since the establishmerit of border patrols.
