1 AT BERESFORD STREET SCHOOL. At tlie Beresford Street'school yesterday, teachers, children and representatives qf the City Schools' Committee; farewelled their headmaster, W,; Kay, who has been appointed to ,the Richmond Road school, In presenting MrKay with an easy chair, Mr. Sparkes and Mr. Meßrine paid a tribute to the .fine work Mr. Kay had done for the school both as assistant master from 19Q6 to }912, and as headmaster since the %var. In reply Mr. Kay said that the BeresStreet school was one round which ; traditions had grown up, due largely ;to the magnificent work of the late Miss !Mclllioue, Miss Priestley and Mr. Hart. I The numerous tropliies held by the, school, won over a long series of years, testified to its virility in sport. Mr. Kay mentioned tliat Mr. Caradus, recently appointed ■an ' inspector of [secondary schools, began liis scholastic career at Beresfard Street School, where lie won the scholarship that gave him the entrance to the Grammar School. On the Somme battlefield, Mr. Kay remarked, lie had heard men talking of the old days at Beresford Street School, only the night before a severe engagement. He suitably acknowledged the> splendid services rendered to the school by the committee, expressed apprecia- ! tion of the loyal co-operation of the teaching staff and concluded with an expression of confidence that the traditions of the school would continue to be upheld in the future. I Hearty cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. Kay, and the gathering dispersed after singing '"For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and Auld Lang Syne.
