LAWN TENNIS.

ANNUAL SCHOOL TOURNEY. THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. The annual schools tennis championship tournament under the auspices of the Auckland' Lawn Tennis Association was commenced this morning. All boys' matches were played; at. the Stanley Street courts, and all the girls' games were played at the Remuera Club's | Courts. ■ - \ •'■ Besides open' events for schools, the Auckland junior championship (under 18) was started. In this event some'good play was seen at both the Remuera and . Stanley Street courts, aiid when the final stage is reached bright tennis should be played. Quite a numuu of players in the open I events are of the unfortunate "pat ball" I variety, and are too prone to get the I ball back and win off the other fellows' 4 • mistakes. But there are one or two in \ both girls' and boys' championship i events who show-great promise and go j for everything with great confidence and certainty. . . Play will be continued next Saturday," and the final matches in all events will be played during the following weeks. j Results:— I BOYS' OPEN SINGLES. !
