LESSONS OF THE TOUR.

NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS. WONDERFUL IMPROVEMENT. SYDNEY, January 14. The manager of the New Zealand cricket team (Mr. Peake), in reviewing the tour, said:— "The side has made a wonderful improvement as a result of its experiences. I have been complimented by some of the oldest and best-known Australian cricketers on the dashing display of our men." Mr. Peake paid a tribute to the hospitality shown to the te.am at all the places it had visited. Although the tour has not been a success from a financial point of view, it has been a great success from the players' point of view. Mr. Peake expressed the greatest pleasure at the conduct of the team, both on and off the field. Allcott, Dacre, and Gillespie sailed by the Niagara for Auckland to-day. The remainder of the team leave by the Maunganui to-morrow.— (A. and N.Z.) THE AVERAGES. The following are the complete batting and bowling averages of the New Zealand team on the Australian tour, which terminated -with the match against : Maitland on Monday and Tuesday last:
