Nyallo, the half sister to Acron, has been placed in the matrons' paddock. The pacer Stadium has changed ownership, and will in future be trained by N. C. Price. The trotter Lackiewood, which has hitherto raced in the South, has been purchased by an Auckland sportsman. The New Zealand champion Great Bingen is the only Dominion nomination for the Australasian championship to bo decided at Perth in March. ; R. E. Mills, who has that good pacer Prince Pointer, ia now working the Auckland mare Her Ladyship. The latter has a fine turn of speed over a sprint course. A. Fleming's fine pair of pacers, Don Wild and Loeanda Mac are not doing a great deal of work, and it is not expected they will be seriously set for racing till the winter meetings come round. The Dunedin-owned trotter Ben Logan started three times at the Greymouth Trotting Club's meeting, and was well supported on each occasion. He is one of the few of his sire's progeny which go at the trotting gait. The -Wellington Trotting Club's meeting will be held at Hutt Park to-morrow. The principal event is the New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup, which has drawn an acceptance of eight. The champion three-year-old Native Chief is handicapped on 4.33, and if Kennerley can get the erratic pacer to leave the mark right it will take a good one to beat him. Backers will probably take the risk and send him out favourite. One of the best young trotters seen at the Greymouth Trotting Club's meeting was Fille de Ballin. She is a four-year-old by the American sire Ballin from My Lass, and is developing into into a really good trotter. On the second day she finished second to Nourmahad in the two-mile harness event, covering the distance at better than a 2.30 clip. Fille de Ballin is engaged at the Wellington meeting on Saturday. The starting methods at the Greymouth Trotting Club's meeting require a good deal of improvement (writes "Argus" in the Christchurch "Star"). The club fixtures have increased in importance since the completion of the tunnel, and large crowds of visitors now attend from Canterbury. There are a number of comparatively cheap starting barriers now on the market, and the Greymouth Club should secure one. Canterbury visitors to the club's recent meeting speak highly of the general conduct and the courtesy extended by the club. Especial reference was made to the attention given to the track between races. The surface received continual attention, and the water cart was in constant use. The only complaint the owners, trainers, riders and drivers made was with regard to the antiquated starting methods. Little was done in the way of fast work on the track at Hutt Park on Monday (says the Wellington writer "Daette"), but several of the local horses were jogged. Before breakfast Pillage and Mary Brown were worked together. Ena Black (J. Fletcher) was jogged several times, and later was given a couple of solid rounds. After breakfast the visiting contingent, which includes J. Shaw with Peter McDonald, S. M. August with Tranquil, A. Ayres with Nelson Tasker , and Huon Grattan, and W. Cairns ,with Sungleam and Lottie Advance, were all out. The two latter look very well after their New Year efforts. J. S. August gave Beatty a solid work out, but the Zolock mare did not impress. Firpo (J. Nesbit) was not asked to do much as he had been given a trial with the straps on the previous afternoon. Zolock Palm was given slow work. Tui Zolock was sent along at a good pace, and Hardy Grattan was given steady work. =
