ARBITRATION COURT.
ASSESSOR FOR WORKERS. MR. HIRAM HUNTER'NOMINATED. At a special meeting of the Amalgamated Engineers' Union, held last evening in the Trades Hall, the matter of nominating a workers' representative was discussed. The representative will fill the vacancy which will be created on the Arbitration Court when the present appointments terminate in March. It was decided to nominate Mr. Hiram Hunter, the present assessor, as the workers' representative, and Mr. W. Sill as deputy. In making mention of the statement that ,lir. A. L. Monteith, Wellington, was receiving the support of t : :e Trades Councils Federation as workers' representative on the Arbitration Court, Mr. R. F. Barter, secretary of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council, stated that the matter had not yet been considered by the Auckland Council, which comprised 30 unions. The question of nominating a candidate would be considered at a meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council on January 21. A resolution, expressing strong disapproval of the action of the Ironmasters' Association in refusing to grant the increase of one penny an hour recently recommended by the Arbitration Court, as a result of figures relating to the cost of living published by the Government Statistician, was adopted.
