A serious accident took place on the main road near- Balfour, states the Southland "News;" when Mr. J. The racehorse, Miss Gauntlett, owned by Mr. W. Groves, which had evidently bolted from the Cattle Flat races, was careering up the road and hit the car head oh. Miss Sargisson was severely injured about the head, and Mr. .Kirkpatrick rendered unconscious for a time. The horee h*d to be destroyed.
