YOUTH ARRESTED.

SEQUEL TO BURGLARY. SMART WORK BY DETECTIVE. CONFESSION WITHIN 24 HOURS. Smart work on. the part of DetectiveSergeant Issell, of the Newton Police, who is well-known for his speed in detecting criminals, resulted in the arrest this morning of a young man who burgled the premises of. the K.K. Footwear, Ltd., Karangahape Road, last evening. When the shop was opened this morning it was found that yesterday's takings, amounting to £66, had been stolen. Detective-Sergeant Issell was called in, and from inquiries he made he was satisfied that the robbery had been committed by someone conversant with the premises. Suspicion fell on a young man, aged 20, who had previously been in the employ of the firm. He' was interviewed by Mr. Issell and Detective White, and confessed to stealing the money. He stated that last evening, just before the shop was closed, he entered it unobserved, and hid himself in the basement. After the manager and employees had left "he stole the money from a place which had come to his notice while he was employed in the shop. The amount was made up of notes, cash, and cheques. Most of it was recovered. The youth, who was dismissed from the firm's employment on December 17, will appear at the Police Court tomorrow morning.
