" _J CRICKET IN N.S.W. " ■rSHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. SYDNEY, January 12. The Sheffield Shield cricket 'match, Xew South Wales v. South Australia, was continued to-day. New South Wales in their first innings scored 642 runs (Kelleway 111. Andrews OS, Punch 47 not out). Scott took three wickets for 190 runs, and Grimmett four for 102. Soivth Australia had lost one Wicket for 20 when stumps were drawn. Kelleway , and Andrews, played a sparkling partnership, Andrews playing a dashing innings, at one time getting six strokes to Kelleway's two. Kelleway played carefully, scoring slowly. He occasionally opened out and batted brilliantly. Then he threw his wicket away by trying to hit Grimmett out of tue ground. The South Australians' fielding greatly improved.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) The New York Amateur Athletic Unioi announces having sanctioned the follow* ing- unpaced swimming trials against time, supervised by the officials of its Florida branch:— Weismuller broke the world's record for 100 metres, setting a new figure of 58 2-ss. Arne Borg broke the 400-metre record in 4m 53 3-ss. and the 880 yds record in llm 20 3-ss. These trials were conducted over a course of not less than 50 metres.
