THE WRONG CAR.
BUT THE RIGHT** COLOUR. A YOUNG MAN ACQUITTED. Similarity in the colour of two cars resulted in the acquittal of Eugene Byrne, aged 2G, who appeared at the Police Court to-day charged that on January 8 he attempted to convert a car valued at £169 to his own use. The evidence showed that he was found,, sitting in the car, at the wheel, and when spoken to by a constable and the owner, apologised for his presence. Mr. Alan Moody, who represented Byrne, callea evidence that Accused had been given a ride in to the city by John Farrell, who drove a khaki-coloured car, and who promised to give accused a ride home on hie return. The car in which Byrne was found sitting was also painted a khaki colour, and the constable, who inspected Farrell's car this morning, said that both vehicles were identical in appearance. Mr. Moody said it was an honest mistake on' the part of accused, who "had a few drinks aboard," and thought he was sit--ting in Farrell's car.
