A Schoolmaster is required for the instruction of boys and ratings in H.M. ships of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. The selected candidate will be first appointed to Philomel, stationed at Auckland, but will probably be transferred later and will be liable to appoint- < ment to any ship of H.M. Navy. Candidates must hold a teacher's certificate and should be prepared to teach the following subjects to " the New Zealand University Matriculation Standard: — Ordinary public school subjects, and, in addition, practical mathematics, including algebra, logarithms, and simple trigonometry, elementary mechanics, electricity, and magnetism. They must be over 21 years of age and be physically fit. as to which they will be required to undergo medical examination as necessary. The selected candidate will be entered on probation for 12 months as acting Warrant Officer, during which period he will be liable to be discharged at any time if found unsuitable. An outfit gratuity of £50 will be payable. £25 on entry and the balance on conclusion of probationary period, and on confirmation as Schoolmaster (Warrant Officer). , The present dally rates of pay ahd allowances are :— Probationary Schoolmaster, "12/6: Schoolmaster, 13/. with annual increments of 6d a day. Senior Master receives pay according to the seniority on the Schoolmasters' scale, with an addition of 3/ a day. Headmaster (rank of Lieutenant). £ 1 S/. rising to £1 16/. Deferred pay (payable with interest on retirement), commencing rate 3/. with increments. Married allowance: Commencing rate 2/6 for wife only, with 6d addition for first child, and a further 6d for two or more children under 16 years of age. Five weeks leave granted annually on full pay with, in addition, leave allowance at (at present! 3/6 per day. Cabin and messing accommodation provided in ship in which borne. Victualling allowance (payable to mess) at rate of 1/6 per day.
