THREE DEATHS.
IN SAMOA HURRICANE. GREAT DAMAGE TO TREES. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)' WELLINGTON", Monday. To date only three deaths have been reported as an outcome of the hurricane ■which swept Samoa on New Year's Day. Latest advices confirm previous messages relating to the damage done to native plantations, and consequent loss of food. The following further radio message was received to-day by Sir Francis Bell from Samoa: "All residents, both native and European, are grateful for messages of sympathy from the Administrator and yourself. So far only three deaths have been reported. Savaii, except for the eastern end, escaped the storm. One of the eastern districts of Sayaii has suf» fered from loss of its food supply. Both coasts of Upolu received heavy damage to native plantations in parts. The Samoa observatory did not suffer any great damage."
