February i>s, 27 —Marlborough R.C. Bute Sound has been given way by his owner and went to Thames yesterday. A. McMullan will ride Flowing Bowl and Rangi Thompson Irish Jig at the Thames meeting on Thursday. A. Robertson has Adi Vunivola under his charge. She is being hacked about preparatory to being put into work. It is a long time since Namutere won a race, but he ran a good six furlongs at Eilerslie this morning- He is engaged at the Thames meeting on Thursday. Royal Tea looks none the worse for his exertions at the A.R.C- summer meeting > and strode along nicely on the two-year-old track at Eilerslie this morning.. Deluge, which went sore at Wangauni recently, is in steady work again, and from present appearances it is thought he will be in good fettle to race at Trentham this month. W. H. Jones will be on Martulla at Trentham. H. Goldfinch will ride Mime, Peneus and Royal Diadem at the same meeting while he will be on Muraahi or Tresham in the Wellington Cup. » Alaric, which has been having a spell, has been taken tip again by W. Dwyer at Wanganui. Kiosk, which is in the same stable, is said tj have felt the effects of his racing at Eilerslie, and is to be given a respite. Motley has no engagements at the Wellington meeting, and is to be given a short spell. She will be taken in hand again for the Jackson Stakes at Wanganui next month- , Weights for first-day events to be decided at the Takapuna Jockey Club's Summer meeting were due on Friday next, but owing to the Thames meeting .being held on Thursday and Saturday they will not appear till Monday. Tressillian was a promising sort last season, winning the Ohinemuri and Rotorua Cups. He was off the scene for some months, but by the way he worked at Eilerslie this morning it looks as though he may again be seen to advantage shortly.

The Tea Tray—Sanacre yearling filly owned by the Hon. E. W. Alison and Mr. Ernest Alison, which was passed at the recent sale at 220gns, has been disposed of, and is to be sent to West Australia. Sanacre is by Linacre —Folly San, and won the A.R.C. Fitzroy Welter Handicap, and also a race at Hawke's Bay. Old Surveyor is standing up to his work and this morning went well over five furlongs on No- 2.grass track. Cawnpore was alongside him at the finish, but Pelham was behind the pair. He will be one of the fancies- at Devonport on Thursday, and the recent rain will assist him, for it will take the sting out of the ground. The two-year-old Antrim Boy, bySome Boy ll.—r-Flare Gun, which is trained by T- George, is looking well- He is much like Mosaic in appearance, which is by the same mare. Antrim Boy showed on the tracks early in the season that he possessed pace, though he has been unplaced in his two starts so far. He should turn out useful. His owner has been asked to put a price on Tommy Dodd several times lately, and prior to the Invercargill Cup was offered £1400 for him, but he would not sell. Tommy Dodd just failed to see the mile and a-quarter out in that race, but on the second day over the same distance nothing had a chance with him over the last two furlongs. According to Southern reports, Listening Post and Tommy Dodd, which are in the same stable, are unlikely both to start in the Wellington Cup and the latter may run in the Anniversary Handicap. Set Sail is also in the same stable, so that the Invercargill trainer, F. Ellis, can be said to have a useful trio to represent him. He is expected to arrive some time this week. Gala Day is among those engaged in the Wellington Cup, and on his showing at Auckland he must be given a chance. He ran well in the Auckland Cup, while he was second in the Grandstand Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, on the concluding day. He has been bowling along nicely in his work since the Eilerslie meeting, and even if he does not win on the first day at Wellington, some of the shorter distance events in which he is nominated should suit him. W. Bagby will ride him. One of the most sensational incidents in turf history on the West Coast occurred at Reefton last week in a hurdle race, when five out of six riders were disqualified for not riding their mounts out. Tlie race was a remarkable one (says a Southern writer), if indeed it could be called a race. . Maunu, which had finished last in each of five starts, won from end to end, but it appeared to the crowd that he held his place only on sufferance There was a loud demonstration of disapproval when the field returned to the scale- The Judicial Committee at once met to consider the circumstances, and decided to disqualify all the riders with the exception of the lad who rode the winner.' The term of disqualification imposed is six months, and the 'offence is i stated to be that the riders failed to ride their mounts out. The disqualified jockeys are McMullan, rider of Tenterfield, Kirwan (Marble Slab), Easton (Uncle Dave), Peart (Cashman), and Campbell (Flying Master). All are well-known riders.

J. B. Pearson has made another start on The Harp and Te Kawa. Both horses have benefited by the spell,, and are in nice condition to start a preparation. The following, are the nominations for the Pahiatua Cup, of 200sovs, one mile -and a-quarter.—Agitato, Westbroke, Don March, Bright Day, Son o' Mine, Printemps, Zero Hour, Blonde, Modern, Tall Timber, Santiago, Mountain Top, Opa, Fillette, Bumptious, Royal Diadem, The Tank, Clandhu, v_iarinda. Arch Salute. Pilliewinkie is. said to be looking particularly well, and he will probably be a runner in the St. George Stakes at Caulfield next month. The race is run over nine furlongs at weight-for-age, with penalties and allowances. At the conclusion of the Tauherenikau meeting Daphne Bruce changed hands,, and will in future share stables with llife Trapper. It is understood, however, that the Robert the Bruce mare has been purchased for stud duties. Flying Shot, a winner at Taranaki, is a three-quarter brother to Depredation, by Camp Fire from Anserine, by Formby from Gosling. He is a three-year-old gelding trained by D. Moraghan, at New Plymouth, and Northern exchanges say that he is likely to be heard of again. There is evidence that more than one horse racing on the Southland circuit suffered through the attentions of some undesirable who could use an instrument (says "Mascot"). In one instance the operator timed his action wrongly, with the result that the horse interfered with won its race before the injectioh took effect. Unfortunately for the connections of another horse, the I operatiqn acted in accordance with the wishes of the scoundrel who performed it. It is to be hoped that the authorities will be successful in running the individual responsible to earth. EtLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES. The weather was fine this morning Tor training.operations at Eilerslie, and 1.0. 2 grass track, which was used ror rast work, was in good order. . Gala Day finished about a length m front or Sleepy Sol, with Marble Mount beatein-off over a round in 1.44 4-5.
