DAIRYING AT GISBORNE.
GREATLY REDUCED OUTPUT. ' (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. According to the figures for the first six months of the present dairy season, the decrease in production through Poverty Bay is 15 per cent. In one exceptional instance a farmer has stated that his decrease amounted to 40 per cent, while others in drier areas have registered- decreases up to 20 per cent: The half-yearly returns of the Kia Ora Co-operative Dairy Company make interesting reading, and show that the company made 33 tons less butter up to the end of December than during the corresponding period last year. This gives a decrease of about 10 per cent; but, as many new suppliers have commenced dairying this season, the percentage is increased to 15. The company is the largest operating in the district, and officials consider that the returns give a fair indication of the conditions in Poverty Bay. The serious part of the present situation is the absence of rain, and it is noticeable that each month the decrease is becoming greater. The decreaee in the company's output during December was 12 tons. Even if good rains are experienced now there is little likelihood of .the output for January showing much increase. t
