TO AID COMMERCE.
WITH U.S.A. ' A letter has been received by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce from ifche Merchants' Association of New •York, Woolworth Buildings, New York iCity, setting forth this organisation's proposals to foster international trade. The Merchants' Association styles itfeelf the largest commercial organisation in New York City, including among its 17000 members the most important merchants, manufacturers, importers, exporters, etc. An important branch of its "work is the placing of foreign business houses, wishing to buy or sell merchandise or to make agency arrangements, in immediate touch with prominent American firms in their respective lines. "In the light of the importance of this phase . of ' our iwork," stated the letter, "you may ideem it wise, as many organisations *'' similar to yours did. a year ago, to bring ithis proposal before the members of the i Chamber of Commerce. The Mer- • chants' Association will gladly aid responsible business houses in the manner set forth above, without any cost whatsoever. In order to prepare lists satisfactorily it is necessary that we receive full details concerning the business contemplated; including a complete description of the merchandise, method, and time of delivery, payment, names of references (preferably in the .U.S.A.), etc." I It was hoped that by a thorough' and ■closer contact and co-operation, the Merchants' Association of New York .' iwould be. able to.assist Christchurch . Imsiness'houses as it had assisted others Jn different parts of the world.
