HOLIDAYS AHEAD.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The suggestion to close shops and offices on the morning of Saturday, January 30, is an excellent one. Let the Mayor of Auckland convene a meeting of business people at once and see how they feel about it. We 'have to observe a half-holiday on Saturday, January 30, so why not 'have the whole day and be done with it? I am quite sure we can all do -with a little extra, recreation after the Christmas rush of business. Personally, I ■will be only t°° pleased to let my staff of six have that extra-half-day, if at all possible to arrange for all shops to close. One thing I do hope for, and that is that all tradesmen's associations, if interested, act at once, decide "Yes" or "No," and advertise their decision. Let Us not wait until the day before the holiday to let the public know, as is generally done in Auckland. —I am, etc., * A MASTER GROCER.
