HIGH RENTS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The "New Chum" who came here over fifty years ago and says he does not yet understand tlie rent question is evidently not a victim. The set of questions he puts forward as to whether various sections of workers give value for their wages has little bearing on profiteering in housing accommodation. A house should be rented in proportion to the cost of same. If this were done no indictment of extortion could be substantiated. But in cases where owners are making tenants buy the property lor them in five or six" years there is something radically wrong with governSs£u*?£** f™ " "*- Chum" timTnm. v f ttere ly a question of get•Thie doee «nf c wa S es demanded.
