He collided with a motor cycle at the junction of Selwyn and Trafalgar Streets, at about 6 p.m., and knocked the rider off, with the result that the latter had to be taken to the hospital. Defendant also failed to report the accident to the police. He pleaded that he did not report the affair as he was not aware that the law required him to do co. Mr. McKean accepted this plea in mitigation of the second offence. He said the Act had recently come into force, and it was well that the public should know of it. As this was the first prosecution under it in Onehunga, Newton was convicted and ordered to pay 7/ costs. For driving his bus without a license, he was fine 10/ nnd 7/ costs. PUBLIC WORKS ACT.
