MIRACULOUS HEALER.
The little village of Avignonet, near Toulouse, has suddenly become a centre of interest to thousands of incurable invalids in France owing to reports of the wonderful healing powers of Jean Beziet, a local farmer. SiDce Beziet first discovered his powers nearly six years ago he has won a great reputation in his locality, but it is only recently that the general public has heard of him, and now his fame is spreading so rapidly that an average of 100 patients visit him on each of his tri-weekly consulting days. Beziet's method is i. combination of magnetism and faith healing. First he breathes with all his power on the affected part of the patient's body, continuing , this breathing until he is momentarily exhausted. Then, laying his hands on the spot, he prays in a loud voice for divine intervention to effect a cure. On the testimony of many disinterested witnesses, he has already affected in this way some 6000 cures, many of them of cases described as incurable by doctors.
He began his healing work in curious circumstances in 1919. A woman neighbour had a daughter -who was insane, and for some reason which she has never been able to explain the conviction grew upon her that Beziet could cure the girl by touching her. Beziet, after hesitation, decided to humour the woman, and did so with surprising 'results, for soon after he had laid hands on the girl she became calm, and within a week her reason was restored. The story of the miracle quickly spread, and Beziet successfully treated in similar fashion other pises of insanity, tuberculosis, cancer, deformity, and paralysis. Some of the cures in his register are vouched for by medical men. He is now to submit to tests under the control of •■ committee <jf gcientif.ta of repufe
