HOUSE NUMBERING.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Reading an advertisement for a lost dog answering the description of one loitering about our place, and with an eve to receiving the reward, I securely tied a string to doggie's collar and proceeded to deliver him to the advertised number. Arriving at the house I was conscious of being stared at from behind the window curtains. Receiving an answer to my summons, I was advised (between suppressed giggles) to take doggie to a house further along the street, (similarly numbered. It suddenly dawned on mc. I wa3 the victim of an April the First joke. To even things up I loosed doggie and gave him a harmless clout and sent him about his business, myself proceeding homewards and casting an eye on the door numbers. To my amazement, I noticed houses with a duplicate number, and 80 next door to 30, and so on; but 203 seemed the favourite number selected, and, ye Gods, some places claimed, two lots of figures, iust to add to confusion. I suppose.—l iun, etc., SILLY BILLIE.
