Toe ( oun.-ii of the Auckland Nurserymen met lust evening, M r . J. G. Allen presiding. The most interesting business of the cxenmg xvas. the readin.tr of a report by Mr. 1.. A. l.reen. Dominion organiser, who detailed the business done at tbe recent conference held in Wellington. Items discussed at the conference were the necessity for more money for research xvork. also for horticultural education, accuracy m nomenclature, standardising nursery products, and the bciutification of the railway stations by planting shrubs and trees.
An address on the Mediterranean fruit fly. xvhich xvas found to be present, in a shipment of oranges recently landed in the Dominion, was given br Mr. L. Harnett, of Wellington. The importance of stringent, inspection of fruit importer! was emphasised, and it was decided to a=k the Government to do all possible to prevent such pests from reaching the Dominion.
The meeting also decided to adopt th e slogan "XVho plants most serves best."
