LADY HANNAH STEWARD. The widow of the late >'ir William Jukes -Steward died yesterday at the residence of Mrs. Corliss-Sinton, Vauxhall, Devonport. Lady Hannah Steward was 89 years of age. She had been in failing health for some time. Lady Steward was a daughter of the Rev. Caleb Whitford. rector of Harford, Worcestershire. England. She was married in 1»7;J. Her late husband was a well-known member of the New Zealand Parliament for a number of years. Be first represented Waitaki from 1871 to 187.1. He sat in Parliament as a. member for Waimate, or Waitaki. for 30 years, and was Speaker of the House for three years, from January, 1891. HON. JOSEPH GRIMMOND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, this day. The Hon. Joseph Grimmond died suddenly at his home, Ross, last evening after returning from a short walk. He was born in Bragheda, Ireland, and was 81 years of age. He is survived by his wife. Mr. Grimmond arrived in New Zealand in 1861 at the time of the Gabriel Gully gold rush, and was a mine manager on (lie West ini-i f r a considerable time. He took n>: avtuc interest in public afTairs, and was Mayor of Ross for 10 terms: also chairman of the Westland County Council for five terms. He represented Westland in the House of Representative? from 1887 to 1800. and was called to the Legislative Council in 1018.
