ALEX. C. BANNERMAJf. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The death is announced of Mr. Alexander C. Bannennan, a famous oldtime N.S.W. cricketer Mr. Bannerman was 66 years of age. — (A. and X.Z.) MR. H. G. SMITH. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDXEY, this day.' The death has taken place of llr. H. G. Smith, F.C.S., the Tveli-known scientist, at the age of 72 years (A. and N.Z. Cable.) ' Hγ. Henry- George Smith, F.C.S., was born in .Canterbury, Kent, in 1852. He arrived in Australia, in 1883, and the year following was appointed to the etaff of Sydney Technological Museum, of which he became assistant curator and economic chemist. He has addicted himself to research in the large field of Australian vegetation, has been a copious ■writer on the subject, being an authority on Australian pines and the enormous family of euealypta.
