CHAIRMAN'S REMUNERATION.
—— . ] ' SALARY AND ELECTRIC LIGHT. ) i SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES INVOLVED - (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) I ! ASHBURTON, this day. j j A decision of the Ashburton Electric < Power Board to supply the chairman, « Mr. F. W. Watt, with free power in addi- 1 tion to a remuneration-of £200 a year, 1 , may have serious . consequences. The' " Electric Power Board Act, 1918, seems s clear upon the point that the members < making the decision and the chairman £ himself have rendered themselves liable ( to disqualification from holding office I as well as fines of £50 each. " ' It is understood that the matter has \ 1 come under the notice of the Public • Works Department, and that the Under- \ secretary has written to the board inquiring if the decision is as stated. He j points out provision is made in the Act •- applicable to such a case. Moreover, he t emphasises that it is the duty of the a board to sell power, not to give it c away, and that the chairman's remun- r eration has been specifically limited to a £200 a year by the Minister of Public t Works. j The portion of the Act cited is section t 15, clause (1), sub-clause (g).
