FURNITURE TRADE.
DOMINION AWARD FILED. (By Telegraph.—Own correspondent.) WELLINGTON this day. A Domin'on award for the furniture trade (with the exception of Marlborough, Nelson, Westland, and Taranaki) has been filed in the Arbitration Court, The term of the award is two years. The hours are fixed at 4-1 weekly, except for furniture packers, where the hours are regulated by the Shops and i Offices Act. The wages of pictureframe makers and wire mattress makers are fixed at 2/0J per hour; unskilled workers, 1/!);} per hour; and other w-orkers, 2/2 per hour. Female workeas are to be paid £1 for the first year, £1 7/6 second year, £1 17/6 third year, £2 5/ fourth year, and £2 15/ fifth year. Payment* for overtime is fixed ut time and a-half for the first four hours, and double time hereafter. Workers on Sunday, Good Friday, Anzac Day, and Christmas Day aTe to receive double pay, and on oiher holiI days pay and a-half. '■ In a note to the award. Judge Frazer says: "The Court has fettled the clauses relating to waL-os, female emp'oyee* improvers, termination of employme nt » and term of award, the other clans*" 1 having been settled in the Conciliation Council. Owing- to there be'ng no unions of employers or workers in the Taranaki, Kelson, MarlboTOUgh, or Westland districts, tho Court has struck out al l parties in those districts, but reserve* I flower to add them on application."
