THE GREATEST BOXERS.
OPINIONS OF CHAMPIONS. (By "SNOWY" BAKER.) James Corbett, ex-world's heavyweight boxer, and "Gentleman" George Dawson, Australia's lightweight championship belt-holder about 1893, had lunch with mc at the Los Angeles Athletic Club recently. I asked Corbett: "Who was the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time?" "Your Peter Jackson, without the shadow of a doubt," waa his immediate reply. "Dempsey couldn't live with him*" he added, as though reading what was in my mind. "How would Dempsey do against Bob Fitzsimmons?" I asked George Dawson. "Fitz would knock the present champion cold if they could mcct —each in his prime," eaid "Gentleman" George. "Speaking of the little fellows," continued Corbett, "the best alive to-day wouldn't hit young Griffo with a bucketful of shot." Jim Corbett is in a vaudeville act; he is 66 years of age, and looks about 40, with, not a blemieh on his cleancut face. '
