In the opening stages, play was in Auckland's twenty-five, aud Adams hud a sliot at g-oal, which fell short. Throwing the ball about, College kept up the attack, until I Miller and Thomus dribbled clear. The University backs got sLarted several times, but handled badly, letting College back to the attack. The Auckland backs again, set up a rally. Freeman and Sinclair making dashes close to College's line, but failing to get there. A bout of crosspassing by Hamilton and Macken took University to the visitors' line on one corner, and then a bout of passing swung acrosß-fleld, for Freeman to score on the other side, and the change-over came with the score: Auckland University 3 Victoria College 0 MUCH RAGGED PASSING. Passing by Britland and Walpole looked like bringing the visitors a score, but the blue forwards stopped them, and took the game to the centre. A mark and kick by Hopkins took play to the visitors' twentyfive, and a passing bout saw Macken well stopped. Kick exchanges ended in Wellington clearing, but a kick-on by Hamilton had them again in trouble, by Hamilton had them again in trouble, which they got out of by a force when Miller had a shot at goal. Auckland were soon back as the result of Mackay lingering with the ball at fullback, but a free for Hopkins playing the -ball from the ground saved them. A dash by Britland started College on attack, and after a long shot at goal had missed, a liner by Hopkins set play Just outside University's twenty-five. McCullough and Keene broke away to the centre, and then White made a run to the opposing fullback, but his pass to Sinclair was missed. The College line was cleared by a dash by Goodwin when an Auckland passing bout broke down, but the local backs were again on the attack when the bell went for half-time: Auckland University 3 Victoria College ° OPENING THE SECOND SPELL. In ragged and spasmodic play College looked like clearing, but McCullough got away and brousht the game back to the front of the visitors' goal, where, from a scrum. Hardy sent to Hopkins, who dropped a g.oal. Auckland University 7, Victoria College 5.

Almost immediately another score came to 'Varsity as the result of Hardy getting away in ruck play and spmliug on to 'Macken, who threw a long in-pans, for ilcCullough to get the ball on the bounce and score a try, which Jluller converted Auckland University 12. Victoria College 5. Ragged play at the centre, and then the Auckland backs sot going to force the greens back to their quarter. Here Ma-kcii was given the ball on the short side of the scrum and he centred. The risking full■back waited for the bounce and MeCnllorg'i beat him for the ball aud sored.
