« ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING. JIEJIBERSHII' OVER FIVE THOUSAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON", this day. The annual meeting of the Council or the New Zealand Public Service Association opened in Wellington to-day under the presidency of Mr. R. Sinel. The opening was formal. Sir F. D. Bell,"who \va3 to have attended, being at Sir Walter Buchanan's funeral. Twenty-two delegates were present. The annual report showed a membership of 5324. including 25 in Western Samoa. The year it was stated had been very satisfactory financially. War Bonds to the value of"£400 were sold and the proceeds reinvested. The reserve fund was £2702 12/10. Ordinary cash receipts, exceeded payments by £216 8/. Subscriptions outstanding totalled £531 5/3. The report stated that sixteen benefits were obtained durins: the year. These did not include any thins; relating to the principal activities of the association, namely, claims in connection with rejrradinsr due on April 1 last, and also improved salary conditions. The former wpre still under consideration by the Public Service Commissioner, and it seemed he is embarrassed by reason of a position created through the action of other organisations. The association would like to see a common basis <>f claim brought before Parliament this session by the three organisations that have most in common —the P. and T; Officers' Association, Railway Officers' Institute, and the Public Service Association. In movins the adoption of the renort Mr. Sinel said the year had been a strenuous one. I Mr. Sinel was re-eleeied president and "Messrs. Mackintosh and J. J. Jackson fboth of Wellincton) vice-presidents. The conference is now in committee.
