REVIVAL OF LIBERALISM.

THROUGHOUT DOMINION. SPECIALLY IN AUCKLAND. "Your executive have much pleasure in reporting that the year just ended has been a" particularly active one,"' states the annual Teport of the provincial council of the Liberal and Labour Federation to be presented to-morrow night at the annual meeting of delegates in the Chamber of Commerce, the president, Mr. Jonathan Trevethick. presiding. "They arc more than pleased to ho able to state that early in tbe year there were unmistakable signs of a reawakening of the latent spirit of Liberalism throughout New Zealand, and especially was this noticeable in the Auckland Province. Encouraged by these signs your executive -took actively in j hand the organisation of branches ! tli rough out the province, anil arc pleased Ito bp able to report that at the present time there arc 46 active branches. It is confidently expected that during the [next 12 months this number will be trebled. The organisation of the LiberalLabour Federation in the Auckland Province is showing the same signs of strength at the present time as it did 1 durins the days when the party was in office."' ■ : '"Your executive fcei that there never was a time in the history of New Zealand when the great bulk of the people were so anxious for a change of government. The public are now showing unmistakable signs of disappointment and restlessness, and your executive feel convinced from the overwhelming amount of evidence that they have in their possession that the next general election will once again spell victory (or the Liberal cause. This will, happily, mean a new era of peace and prosperity for the great mass of the people of New Zealand. "Your executive feel that the members of the party should be warned against the insidious propaganda which has been bo persistently spread up to the time of the present session of Parliament, indicating a fusion between the Liberal and the Reform parties. It is being stated in many quarters—and taken up by important Conservative newspapers—that there is no difference between the two parties. This must be amusing to thousands of Liberals throughout New Zealand who cannot fail to realise that the principles of the two parties are as wide apart as the poles. "A most outstanding feature of the year has been the visit to the Auckland province by the Leader of the party, Mr. T: M. Wilford, and a number of his colleagues. The result of his visit was ,a great uplift to the Liberal cause and a complete answer to the personal mis- ' representation which had been broadicaeted previously by his opponents. In addition to the leader of the party, Messrs. Veitch, Masters, and Ransom came into the province and addressed meetings in various centres. The results were highly gratifying in all cases, and your executive feel that the expounding of the principles of Liberalism by the Leader and other members of the Parliamentary party has done much for the cauee."
