CERTIFICATES IN LUNACY.

B.M.A. SEEKS PROTECTION. LONDON, July 20. The members of the British Medical Association at their annual meeting passed a resolution to the effect that the provision of a certificate, under the Lunacy Act by n practitioner should have the legal status of testimony given, in a law court. The giving of the certificate should not render a practitioner liable to civil or criminal proceedings unless it contained statements proved to be inaccurate and to have been made wilfully or deliberately. The adoption of the motion was probably due to the Harnett case, in which, a farmer sued Dr. Adam, the keeper of a mental hospital, and Dr. Bond, Commissioner in Lunacy, for alleged unlawful detention in the former's institution. (A. and N.Z. Cable).
