CRUMBLES MURDER.

EVIDENCE OF MAHON. STERN CROSS-EXAMINATION. PARK WOMAN'S STORY. ißy Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 18. The case in which Patrick Mahon is charged with the murder of Emily Li. Kaye at the officers' house, "Tho Crumbles,'' I'evensey, Eastbourne, was continued. Alter live and a-half hours in the box, during three of which he was subjected to tne severest cross-examination, Patrick -Million completed his evidence. He frequently broKe down and cried loudly. At the finish he was in a state of collapse. Maliou admitted he bought a knife and saw previous to the death of the deceased, and not subsequently, as hitherto affirmed. Mahon's further evidence was mainly a recapitulation of his statements to the police. He said that deceased was passionately in love with hiiil and wanted him to leave his wile, fcihe gave him a number of £100 notes, as payment of her share in a joint speculation in francs. He cashed these under a false name because he believed the transaction would compromise him with his wile and force their separation. While explaining the quarrel at The Crumbles, which led to deceased's death, Mahon collapsed in the dock, and it was some minutes before lie revived. Ethel Duncan, one of tho principal witnesses for the prosecution, was recalled, and under cross-examination said she observed heavy bruises on Mahon's shoulders and arms when she was living with him at The Crumbles, a couple of days after the murder is supposed to have been committed. Sir Bernard ispilsbury, pathologist to the Home Of— cc, gave evidence tnat he was unable to assign a definite cause of death, but it could not have been the result of a. fall and striking her head on a coal scuttle. After counsels' addresses the judge announced that he would sum up tomorrow.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
